Job Description:

Summary: Under general supervision, performs a variety of responsible and complex technical and administrative duties relating to personnel functions and programs including in the areas of employment recruitment, worker’s compensation, benefits administration, classification and compensation, employee relations and liability claims. HR Assistant will handle a variety of personnel related administrative duties. The role is to act as a liaison between the HR manager and employees, ensuring a smooth communication and prompt resolution of all queries. The position will also support daily HR activities and assist in coordinating HR policies, processes and relevant documents

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Recruiting: This employee would spend approximately 25% of their time on recruiting activities including: attending recruiting events, assisting in the advertising of open positions, screening and interview processes and hiring processes for new employees. Trains management in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.

  • Assist in management of new Online Applicant Tracking software processes for AFM, employee onboarding process and orientation processes that are greatly needed for AFM.

  • Serve as a front line "Help Desk" for employee questions.

  • Serve as back up for payroll processing and post payroll Journal entries during closing.

  • Performs HRIS data entry and personnel file maintenance

  • Bonus calculations: Complete bonus calculations

  • Employee onboarding process in Infocus & follow-up: Heavy administrative process that must be done to get employees in accounting system. This process must be completed by someone that understands confidential nature of employee and salary Information and set up must be timely to start the onboarding process and have all items ready when employee comes to work at AFM.

  • Education Program Benefit; compile all records of continuing education classes taken by employees

  • Maintain electronic personnel files

  • Assist with Duke drug testing program

  • Oversee the processing of eVerify and SUI required filing

  • Compensation and benefits administration and recordkeeping

  • Provide monthly article for company newsletter

  • Serve as back up for other HR duties

Experience and Skills:

Knowledge and Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge in basic labor laws, payroll laws and compliance law

  • Knowledge of benefit plans, structure, administration

  • Willingness to travel for recruiting events and training

  • Be familiar with computer generated spreadsheets, Excel, and HR Software systems

  • Strong knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations that affect human resources

  • Ability to ensure that all policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.

  • Thorough knowledge of business and office procedures.

     

     

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive personnel, internal, and customer information.

  • Ability to develop strong team relationships with managers, co-workers, clients, and customers to develop creative, cost effective, value-added applications.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or 5+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
