Job Description:

American Forest Management, Inc. (AFM) seeks a forester to join our forest management team in Northeast Washington.  This position will report to the Spokane District Manager and be responsible for assisting with all aspects of forest management (planning, harvesting, roads, and silviculture) on multiple properties under management, as well as other tasks assigned by the District and Region Manager.


Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Harvest unit layout under the direction of District Manager or Forester II
  • Timber cruising data collection and processing
  • Visit properties, assess resource concerns, and write timber management plans
  • Silviculture planning and contract administration
  • Reforestation planning and contract administration
  • Participation in industry meetings and landowner educational events
  • Overnight travel is required on some projects.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the District and Region Managers

Experience and Skills:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or equivalent
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong listening capabilities with the ability to translate communications into appropriate course of action
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under strict time constraints
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced work environment
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs such as MS Word and Excel
  • Familiarity with GIS programs desired
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Ability to work in difficult field conditions, such as walking in steep terrain, over vegetation, and on rocks, during inclement weather (snow, rain, heat) either alone or as part of a team.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles on steep and narrow mountain roads.
